We were up and ready early to catch a ferry and fly off to Madrid. But since no one likes a goodbye, Griff rode over on the ferry with us. He was telling us about a great hole-in-the-wall sandwich spot with delicious tuna sandwiches. We didn't think we had time before the airport so we said our goodbyes and were on our way. Just through security with plenty of time to spare, Griff called from inside the airport with sandwiches for us. Tony had breezed through security most quickly, so we sent him back out! Those sandwiches hit the spot--thanks Griff!

Made it to Madrid! We grabbed our bags and opted for a cab to the hotel. Walking out of the Madrid airport we thought there might be a celebrity arriving along with us. I've never seen a crowd like that at the airport doors, but apparently that's what they do here. No cell phone waiting area for these folks!

When we were planning the trip we decided to go for a nice hotel for our last few days, and the Catalonia Puerto del Sol is perfect! It is in a 17th century building with an inside courtyard and balconies that look out at the street. It's super comfortable, and we are centrally located. Nice to have a bit of luxury for a few days.

We needed to do some washing, so we grabbed our laundry bags and took a walk to the laundromat. While our clothes were washing we found a little bar for a snack of meat and cheese before dinner. And dinner was delicious--tapas at a spot called Monísima; it translates to really cute, adorable, and it was. On a busy Friday night we somehow scored the last table in the corner.
We are in collective agreement that Madrid beats Barcelona for friendliness, for food, and for vibe. So far so good!

Just us, walking through Madrid with our laundry bags...
